Lithuania’s credit union sector consists of central credit unions and credit unions established in the Republic of Lithuania.
A central credit union is a credit institution established in the Republic of Lithuania that has the right to accept deposits, lend and transfer funds as well as provide other financial services. It supports the liquidity and restores the solvency of credit unions (its members) where necessary.
A credit union is a credit institution operating on a cooperative basis that has the right to accept deposits, lend and transfer funds as well as provide other financial services.
We are currently supervising 59 credit unions and 2 central credit unions – the Lithuanian Central Credit Union and the United Central Credit Union.
