Bank of Lithuania

The Money Museum is located in the heart of Vilnius, with an additional exhibition in the historic building of Lietuvos bankas in Kaunas. The museum offers visitors a journey through the history of money, both globally and in Lithuania, as well as the evolution of banking in Lithuania – from the first credit institutions to the present day.

Admission to the Money Museum is free of charge. We welcome individual visitors and organise guided tours for groups, as well as educational events for schoolchildren and preschoolers.

The museum has tens of thousands of exhibits, ranging from the earliest money used in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania to modern digital coins. A standout attraction is the world’s largest coin pyramid, built with 1,000,935 Lithuanian one-cent coins before the euro's introduction. This record-breaking structure, featured in the Guinness Book of World Records, honours Lithuania's former currency, the litas.

Visitors can enjoy a blend of traditional displays and modern interactive exhibits. These include:

  • Hands-on learning through computer terminals, thematic films, and documentaries.
  • An opportunity to strike a souvenir token (a bookmark) or weigh yourself on special scales that calculate your worth in gold, platinum, or silver.

The museum is accessible to all, with movable stands and special lifts to accommodate visitors of different needs and heights. There also is an electronic sign language interpretation system.
