In order to address the challenges posed by climate change, the Bank of Lithuania established the Climate Change Centre at the end of 2022. Head of the Climate Change Centre: Tomas Garbaravičius, PhD, CFA The goal of the Climate Change Centre is to enhance ecological sustainability and mitigate climate-related risks in all areas of responsibility of the Bank of Lithuania. Climate change-related risks include potential physical damages and losses associated with the green transition. Together with other business areas of the Bank of Lithuania, the Centre is implementing the Bank of Lithuania’s Green Strategy for 2023-2025. |
Objectives of the Centre and the Green Strategy:
- Manage and mitigate climate-related risks to financial stability
- Ensure proper mandatory green disclosures by financial sector participants
- Reduce the environmental impact of cash
- Ensure the greenness of the Bank of Lithuania’s daily operations
- Increase green investments in Bank of Lithuania financial portfolio
