Gediminas Šimkus joined the Bank of Lithuania in 2002, and over the 18 years of his work at this institution consistently furthered his career, gaining experience in banking supervision, financial stability, analysis and forecasting of global and domestic economic developments, statistical compilation and dissemination, monetary policy formation, macro-prudential and economic policy decision-making. Two years spent working at the European Central Bank (ECB) contributed even more to his knowledge and experience. As Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania, Gediminas Šimkus oversees the areas of monetary policy and economics, organisational management (administration) to the extent that it is implemented by the Strategy and Governance Department (except for the People and Culture Division and the Money Museum) and the Internal Audit Division, Centre for Financial Market Development.
