Obverse
The obverse of the coin features Vytis inside a shield against a damascened background with the Duke’s crown and sceptre, surrounded by the inscription LIETUVA (LITHUANIA), denomination (50 litas), and the year of issue (1996).
Reverse
The reverse of the coin features a portrait of Mindaugas, King of Lithuania. The portrait is based on a medal by the sculptor Vytautas Kašuba and is surrounded by the inscriptions MINDAUGAS • LIETUVOS • KARALIUS (MINDAUGAS, THE KING OF LITHUANIA) and 1251–1263.
