Obverse

The obverse of the coin features Vytis against a damascened background, surrounded by the inscription LIETUVA (LITHUANIA), denomination (50 litas), year of issue (1999), the mintmark of the Lithuanian Mint, and the Columns of Gediminas on both sides.

Reverse

The reverse of the coin features a portrait of Kęstutis, Grand Duke of Lithuania. The portrait is based on a medal by the sculptor Vytautas Kašuba and is surrounded by the inscriptions KĘSTUTIS • DIDYSIS • LIETUVOS • KUNIGAIKŠTIS (KĘSTUTIS, GRAND DUKE OF LITHUANIA) and 1345–1382.
