20 September 2010 REVIEW OF THE BALANCE OF PAYMENTS OF THE REPUBLIC OF LITHUANIA FOR Q2 AND H1 2010 The surplus on the current account balance (CAB) of the country’s Balance of Payments for Q2 2010 grew six times compared to Q1. In Q2 it made up LTL 1.2 billion accounting for 4.8% of the gross domestic product (GDP). The negative balance of the second quarter financial account (LTL -1.8 billion) is related to an increased propensity of Lithuania to save in the context of declining foreign investments. Current account. The Q2 2010 surplus on the CAB of the country’s balance of payments made up LTL 1.2 billion (4.8% of GDP), a quarter-on-quarter increase of LTL 982.5 million (6 times higher) or 3.5 times higher compared to Q2 2009. In H1 this year, the surplus on CAB was LTL 1.4 billion (3% of GDP) or 5.7 times higher compared to the corresponding period in 2009.
