Lietuvos bankas published the provisional data on direct investment (DI) for the first quarter of 2026. According to the latest data release:

the foreign direct investment (FDI) flow in Lithuania went up in the first quarter of 2026 by 40.7% year on year to €685.4 million (see Chart 1). This change was driven by increased reinvestment in Lithuania (€663.4 million). The largest inflows into Lithuania were recorded from Poland (€187.9 million), Finland (€167.9 million), and Latvia (€150.9 million), while outflows were recorded from the Netherlands (€290.7 million), the United States (€127.9 million), and Estonia (€121.2 million). In terms of economic activity, a notable increase in investments was observed in wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (€426.5 million), manufacturing (€226.1 million), information and communication (€90.9 million), while a decrease was recorded in construction (€112.3 million), and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (€79.7 million);

FDI income from non-resident investment amounted to €935.8 million in the first quarter of 2026 and went up by 6.5% year on year. The bulk of FDI income (70.9%) was reinvested, while 25.8% of income was allocated to dividends (see Chart 2). The largest reinvestments were made by investors from Poland (€203.3 million), Finland (€160.9 million), and Latvia (€94.7 million), while the largest share was allocated to dividends by Estonia (€107.3 million) and Sweden (€49.7 million). In terms of economic activity, most income was received from enterprises engaged in financial and insurance activities (€322 million);

cumulative FDI in Lithuania rose by 16.5% over the year to €47.4 billion or 55.5% of GDP on 31 March 2026. FDI per capita in Lithuania amounted to an average of €16,421 (€14,097 as at 31 March 2025). The largest investors in Lithuania were from the Netherlands (€7.1 billion), Germany (€5.8 billion), the United Kingdom (€4.9 billion), Sweden (€4.2 billion) and Estonia (€4.1 billion) (see Chart 3). Financial and insurance businesses attracted the most FDI (€15.8 billion), with investments in these sectors increasing by 9.7% over the year;

the flow of Lithuania’s DI abroad amounted to €127.4 million over the period under review and rose by 17.9% year on year. This was driven by an increase in reinvestments (€65.6 million) and investments by Lithuanian residents in foreign equity instruments (€53.4 million) (see Chart 4). The largest investment flows were recorded in Iceland (€187.2 million) and Latvia (€154.8 million), while the largest negative flows were recorded in the Netherlands (€124.2 million) and Norway (€71.5 million). In terms of economic activity, a notable increase in investments was observed in manufacturing enterprises (€107 million), while investments decreased in enterprises engaged in information and communication activities (€99.5 million);

DI income earned by Lithuanian investors abroad amounted to €94 million in Q1 2026, down by 32.8% year on year. The majority of DI income (69.8%) was reinvested, while 27.2% of income was allocated to dividends (see Chart 5). Most income was earned from investments in Latvia (€104.5 million), where 96.6% of income was generated by reinvestments (€101 million);

As at 31 March 2026, Lithuania’s cumulative DI abroad stood at €13.2 billion, of which 49.9% was in the EU Member States. The main directions of Lithuania’s DI abroad are the USA (€5.6 billion), Latvia (€2.6 billion) and Estonia (€1.1 billion), accounting for 42.7%, 19.8%, and 8.7%, of Lithuania’s total DI abroad, respectively (see Chart 6). The largest share of Lithuania’s cumulative DI abroad (43.5% or €5.8 billion) went to enterprises engaged in professional, scientific and technical activities.
