The increasing surpluses on the balances of services and secondary income in Q3 2015 did not offset the deficits on the foreign trade and primary income balances, which led to the build-up of a current account deficit of EUR 173.8 million. The positive balance of payments financial account balance of EUR 189.6 million in Q3 2015 was due to claims to residents increasing more than liabilities to residents.

At the end of Q3 2015, the negative international investment position balance (EUR 17.5 billion) showed that Lithuania has been a debtor vis-a-vis the rest of the world. The gross debt amounted to EUR 28.5 billion, or 77.2 per cent of GDP, while the net debt — EUR 10.8 billion, or 29.4 per cent of GDP in this period.
