Annual Economics Conference: Productivity, Convergence, and Competitiveness in Europe: A Focus on Small Open Economies

Lietuvos bankas, in cooperation with the Competitiveness Research Network (CompNet), is organising an international conference on Productivity, Competitiveness, and Economic Convergence in Small Open Economies. The event will take place in Vilnius on 25–26.

About the Conference

This conference will explore the intricate relationship between productivity, competitiveness, and economic convergence. As global trade patterns shift, economic policies evolve, and firms operate under increasing geopolitical uncertainty, the role of small open economies in Europe has become more crucial than ever.

Bringing together leading researchers, policymakers, and experts, the event aims to shed light on the major challenges European firms face in an increasingly globalised environment. Discussions will centre around the drivers of sustained growth, the dynamics behind Europe’s competitiveness, and the strategic role of small economies in shaping future economic resilience.

A central theme will be understanding the unique strengths, vulnerabilities, and policy strategies that influence small open economies' capacity to remain competitive.

Keynote Speaker

Chad Syverson is an economics professor at the University of Chicago. His research spans several topics, with a particular focus on the interactions of firm structure, market structure, and productivity. His research has been published in several top journals and has earned multiple National Science Foundation awards.

Prof. Syverson also served as an editor of the Journal of Political Economy – one of the TOP5 research journals in economics as well as the editor on several other journals’ editorial boards. He is a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research and has recently served on National Academies committees and as the chair of the Chicago Census Research Data Center Board.
