Bank of Lithuania

The Capital Requirements Directive IV and Capital Requirements Regulation (CRD IV/CRR), which came into effect on 1 January 2014, are among of the most important documents regulating the EU banking sector. The aim of this legislative package is to reinforce the resilience of the EU banking sector in order to make it better suited to absorb economic shocks while ensuring that banks continue to finance economic activity and growth.

These documents implement the Basel III agreement within the EU. The amendments of the CRD IV/ CRR have been approved on 20 May 2019. The CRD IV has been partially amended as regards exempted entities, financial holding companies, mixed financial holding companies, remuneration, supervisory measures and powers and capital conservation measures.

The CRR has been partially amended as regards the leverage ratio, the net stable funding ratio, requirements for own funds and eligible liabilities, counterparty credit risk, market risk, exposures to central counterparties, exposures to collective investment undertakings, large exposures, reporting and disclosure requirements. Regulation (EU) 2020/873 amending Regulations (EU) No 575/2013 and (EU) 2019/876 as regards certain adjustments in response to the COVID-19 pandemic has been approved on 24 June 2020.
