During three seminars organised in Gariūnai, the largest marketplace in the Baltic States, small retailers have been introduced to Lithuania’s future currency, the euro.

“You work with cash, the amount of which before and after the adoption of the euro will definitely be larger than usual. Therefore retailers, to whom payments for goods will be made either in litas or euro banknotes and coins, must be more attentive in order to avoid being given counterfeits as such danger, although not great, always does exist. Therefore, one needs to be aware of the key security features of banknotes and coins,” said Danguolė Liaugminienė, Head of the Currency Production Organization and Examination Division of the Cash Service at the Bank of Lithuania.

Participants of the seminars have been told about the security features of each of the seven denominations of euro banknotes currently in circulation, uniform across the euro area. Information about the currently used circulation euro coins of eight denominations has also been presented.

Tomas Lavišius, Deputy Head of the Small and Medium Business Policy Division of the Small and Medium Business Department at the Ministry of Economy, informed about dual price display in litas and euro that will be involuntary from the end of August of this year to the middle of next year. He presented the Memorandum on Good Business Practice during the Adoption of the Euro.

Zita Sorokienė, Chairwoman of the Lithuanian Association of Small Entrepreneurs and Traders, stressed the importance of such seminars for small retailers in order to adequately prepare for the euro adoption and move unhindered to the new currency, and to smoothly serve buyers.

The representatives of the Bank of Lithuania agreed with Gariūnai Business Park on the further dissemination of information in this large object of small and medium business.
