As from today, the Bank of Lithuania starts publishing the List of Lithuanian Monetary Financial Institutions for Statistical Purposes on its web site, to be updated at the beginning of each month.

The List of Lithuanian Monetary Financial Institutions for Statistical Purposes includes, in addition to the central bank, resident money creating sector financial institutions whose business is to receive deposits and/or close substitutes for deposits from entities other than monetary financial institutions, and, for their own account, to grant credits and/or make investments in securities. The Lithuanian monetary financial institutions sector comprises the Bank of Lithuania, commercial banks, foreign bank branches, the Central Credit Union of Lithuania, credit unions and part of collective investment undertakings ? money market funds.

The list is drawn up following the provisions of Regulation (EC) No. 2423/2001 of the European Central Bank of 22 November 2001 concerning the consolidated balance sheet of the monetary financial institutions sector (ECB/2001/13). As from 1 May 2004, the monetary financial institutions of the new Member States will be included in the List of EU Monetary Financial Institutions for Statistical Purposes published by the ECB.
