The Board of the Bank of Lithuania decided to issue a new electronic money institution licence, approved the issuance of the new gold coin dedicated to Social Sciences and did not object to the indirect acquisition of a life insurance and pension company.
New licence issued
The Board of the Bank of Lithuania granted an electronic money institution licence to AWX Lithuania, UAB, authorising it to issue electronic money and provide certain payment services set forth in the Republic of Lithuania Law on Payments.
Until recently, Airwallex, the owner of AWX Lithuania, UAB, has provided branded payment services mainly in Asia and Australia. Business-oriented Airwallex payment services will be provided in Lithuania as well. Our country, along with the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, was chosen to expand services to Europe.
According to public sources, Airwallex group has 12 global offices, over 800 employees and an ever-increasing number of investors.
Airwallex focuses its services on businesses with a need for cross-border payments: from small and medium-sized businesses to large merchants and diverse trading platforms.
The institution is 100% owned directly by the UK-based electronic money institution Airwallex (UK) Limited.
Issuance of a new coin dedicated to Social Sciences
As decided by the Board of the Bank of Lithuania, a new €5 gold coin dedicated to Social Sciences (from the series ‘Lithuanian Science’) will be issued into circulation on 29 October 2021.
The mintage of the gold coin of proof quality (Au 999) is 1,500 pieces.
The graphic design of the obverse and reverse was created by Antanas Pocevičius. The coins were minted at the Lithuanian Mint.
This will be the sixth coin from the series ‘Lithuanian Science’. The series features coins dedicated to: Heart Surgery in the field of biomedical sciences (2012); Baltic Studies in the field of humanities (2014), Physics in the field of physical sciences (2016), Technological Sciences (2019) and Agricultural Sciences (2020). The coin dedicated to Social Sciences completes the series ‘Lithuanian Science’.
Approval of a transaction
The Board of the Bank of Lithuania did not object to Allianz Holding eins GmbH and Allianz SE acquiring 100% of the life insurance and pension company Aviva Lietuva, UAGDPB authorised capital and voting rights.
The Financial Market Supervision Service of the Bank of Lithuania received requests for authorisation of the indirect acquisition of Aviva Lietuva, UAGDPB by the aforementioned companies on 12 July 2021.
