According to the financial statements presented by the banks for 1 July 2002, operating domestic commercial banks and foreign bank branches were characterised by the following:

- assets totalled LTL 15.2 billion, declining over the second quarter by LTL 52 million (0.3%). The growth of the banking system was slowed down by the decline of the US dollar during the quarter by 9.1 per cent.

- total loans granted to clients amounted to LTL 6.7 billion, declining in comparison with the beginning of April due to the weakness of the US dollar by LTL 23 million (0.3%);

- deposits totalled LTL 10.6 billion, declining over the quarter by LTL 193 million (8.1%);

- of which individual deposits made up LTL 6.4 billion, i.e. 1.8 per cent less against 1 April;

- of which deposits in the national currency made up LTL 6.2 billion, increasing over the quarter by 5 per cent;

of which deposits in foreign currencies made up LTL 4.3 billion, declining over the reporting period by 10.2 per cent.
