Upon the adoption of the euro, the Bank of Lithuania will continue transferring numismatic items to museums, which have been accumulating Lithuanian currency collections since Lithuania regained its independence.
By order of the Bank of Lithuania, five museums will be given euro banknotes, Lithuanian circulation euro and euro cent coins, sets of circulation euro coins, also Lithuanian commemorative and collectors euro coins issued by the Bank of Lithuania, two pieces of each. They will be given to the National Museum of Lithuania, Lithuanian Art Museum, M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art, Vytautas the Great War Museum, National Museum Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. Moreover, it has been decided to give to these museums LTL 500 and LTL 1000 banknotes of the 1991 issue, LTL 100 banknotes of the 1994 issue, and LTL 50 coins (graphic designs) dedicated to the Olympic Games in Lillehammer, 2004 issue, two pieces of each. These numismatic items have also been given to the Money Museum of the Bank of Lithuania.
In view of the request of the members of the Baltic Association of Numismatics, appeal of the Ministry of Culture and requests of some museums, it has been decided to additionally give numismatic items to other museums in Lithuania as well, considering their wishes. Circulation litas banknotes and coins, collectors (commemorative) circulation coins which still will be held at the Bank of Lithuania at that time, as well as Lithuanian circulation euro and euro cent coins, 2 pcs. of each, are to be allocated for this purpose.
