In April 2021, commemorating the 230th Anniversary of the Constitution of 1791 – the magnum opus of the revived Polish‑Lithuanian Commonwealth, the national banks of Lithuania and Poland will jointly issue collector coins dedicated to this historic date.

The central banks have already agreed on common motifs and inscriptions to be reflected on these precious metal coins, which are expected to be issued in both countries on the same day in April 2021.

On this occasion, the Bank of Lithuania plans to issue a €20 silver coin dedicated to the 230th Constitution of 3 May and Mutual Pledge of the Commonwealth of the Two Nations with an estimated mintage of 2,500 pcs. Narodowy Bank Polski plans to issue a 100 zł gold and a 50 zł silver coins dedicated to the 230th Anniversary of the Constitution of 1791 – the magnum opus of the revived Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, with a mintage of up to 1,200 and 6,000 pcs respectively.

Adopted in 1791, the Constitution of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth is generally considered Europe’s first and the world’s second modern written national constitution, after the Constitution of the United States.

In 2021, the Bank of Lithuania also plans to issue two €2 commemorative coins dedicated to Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve (UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme) and Dzūkija (from the series “Lithuanian Ethnographic Regions”), as well as a €20 collector coin dedicated to the XXXII Olympic Games in Tokyo. Moreover, the central bank will also introduce additions to its coin series: in 2021, it plans to issue €1.5 and €5 collector coins dedicated to the Sea Festival (from the series “Traditional Lithuanian Celebrations”) and a €5 gold coin dedicated to Social Sciences (from the series “Lithuanian Science”). Next year, the Bank of Lithuania will also issue its first €1.5 and €5 collector coins in the series “Tales from My Childhood”, which will be dedicated to the fairy tale “Eglė – Queen of Serpents”, as well as its annual numismatic set of circulation euro coins.
