At the end of October 2005 broad money M2 made up LTL 26.1 billion. Over one month it increased by LTL 368.1 million, i.e. 1.4 per cent.
Money M1 grew in one month by LTL 366.8 million (2.6%) to LTL 14.5 billion at the end of October. With respect to M1 components, currency in circulation grew by LTL 99.9 million, while demand deposits in litas increased by LTL 266.8 million. Demand deposits of natural persons and non-financial undertakings increased over the month by LTL 129.1 million and LTL 44.9 million, respectively, and demand deposits of other institutions by LTL 92.8 million.
Quasi-money grew by LTL 1.3 million in October to LTL 11.6 billion at the end of the month. Litas time and savings deposits increased by LTL 8.1 million in one month, of which time and savings deposits of natural persons increased by LTL 87.2 million, and such deposits of non-financial undertakings and other institutions by LTL 51.6 million and LTL 27.5 million, respectively. Deposits in foreign currencies decreased by LTL 6.8 million, of which deposits of natural persons went up by LTL 36.7 million and deposits of non-financial undertakings and other institutions went down by LTL 28.2 million and LTL 15.3 million, respectively.
The main M2 counterparts - net foreign assets and domestic credit - developed in opposite directions. Net foreign assets decreased by LTL 822.7 million (12.1%), and domestic credit grew by LTL 1.4 billion (5.8%). Net claims on the central government and social insurance funds increased in October by LTL 425.9 million, while claims on non-banking financial institutions rose by LTL 142.5 million. Claims on the private sector increased by LTL 794.5 million. Among the latter, the highest increase in October was recorded in respect of the claims on private non-financial undertakings and natural persons, which went up by LTL 431.5 million and LTL 363.1 million, respectively.
