At the end of May 2005 broad money M2 made up LTL 23.8 billion. In the course of one month it increased by LTL 468.4 million, i.e. 2.0 per cent.
Money M1 grew in one month by LTL 435.4 million (3.4%) to LTL 13.2 billion at the end of May. M1 components - currency in circulation and demand deposits in litas - grew by LTL 50.3 million and LTL 385.0 million, respectively. Demand deposits of natural persons and non-financial undertakings increased over the month by LTL 163.6 million and LTL 45.1 million, respectively, and demand deposits of other institutions by LTL 176.3 million.
Quasi-money grew by LTL 33.0 million in May to LTL 10.6 billion at the end of the month. Litas time and savings deposits decreased by LTL 19.6 million in one month, of which time and savings deposits of natural persons increased by LTL 58.5 million, and such deposits of non-financial undertakings decreased by LTL 75.6 million. Deposits in foreign currencies increased by LTL 52.6 million, of which deposits of natural persons increased by LTL 79.0 million and deposits of non-financial undertakings went down by LTL 25.2 million.
The main M2 counterparts - net foreign assets and domestic credit - developed in opposite directions. Net foreign assets went down by LTL 341.1 million, and domestic credit grew by LTL 859.3 million, i.e. 4.4 per cent, in one month. Claims on the central government and compulsory social and health insurance funds declined in May by LTL 26.3 million, while claims on non-financial public undertakings and non-banking financial institutions rose by LTL 55.3 million and LTL 97.0 million, respectively. Claims on the private sector increased by LTL 736.4 million, of which claims on private non-financial undertakings and natural persons went up by LTL 403.3 million and LTL 332.8 million, respectively.
