At the end of July 2005 broad money M2 made up LTL 25.2 billion. Over one month it increased by LTL 641.8 million, i.e. 2.6 per cent.
Money M1 grew in one month by LTL 176.1 million (1.3%) to LTL 13.9 billion at the end of July. With respect to M1 components, currency in circulation grew by LTL 185.7 million, while demand deposits in litas decreased by LTL 9.6 million. Demand deposits of natural persons in litas increased by LTL 84.1 million, and demand deposits of non-financial undertakings and other institutions declined by LTL 58.0 million and LTL 35.7 million, respectively.
Quasi-money grew by LTL 456.7 million (4.3%) in July to LTL 11.3 billion at the end of the month. Litas time and savings deposits increased by LTL 79.4 million in one month, of which time and savings deposits of natural persons increased by LTL 120.1 million, and such deposits of non-financial undertakings decreased by LTL 36.3 million. Deposits in foreign currencies went up by LTL 386.3 million, of which deposits of natural persons increased by LTL 90.6 million and deposits of non-financial undertakings by LTL 275.2 million.
The main M2 counterparts - net foreign assets and domestic credit - developed in opposite directions. Net foreign assets decreased by LTL 269.5 million (3.5%), and domestic credit grew by LTL 1.1 billion (5.0%). Domestic credit growth was mostly influenced by claims on the central government and social insurance funds, which grew by LTL 77.9 million, claims on non-banking financial institutions (LTL 94.7 million) and claims on the private sector (LTL 919.8 million). Among the latter, the highest increase of claims in July was recorded in respect of the private non-financial undertakings and natural persons, which went up by LTL 577.8 million and LTL 341.2 million respectively.
