At the end of February 2003 broad money M2 made up LTL 14.5 billion. In the course of one month it increased by LTL 61.6 million, i.e. 0.4 per cent, while the annual increase amounted to LTL 2.0 billion, i.e. 15.7 per cent.
Currency in circulation expanded by LTL 39.9 million in February. Demand deposits in litas increased by LTL 118.7 million, of which deposits of non-financial private companies and natural persons went up by LTL 88.0 million and LTL 45.9 million, respectively, and such deposits of local government institutions and non-financial public companies went down by LTL 13.9 million and LTL 2.9 million, respectively.
Litas time and savings deposits decreased by LTL 31.2 million, of which deposits of non-financial private companies and non-banking financial institutions contracted by LTL 99.4 million and LTL 4.8 million, respectively, and such deposits of natural persons and non-financial public companies increased by LTL 44.9 million and LTL 28.4 million, respectively. Deposits in foreign currencies decreased by LTL 65.8 million, of which deposits of non-financial private companies and natural persons went down by LTL 27.4 million and LTL 41.7 million, respectively.
Net foreign assets decreased in February by LTL 209.0 million, of which foreign assets went down by LTL 87.4 million, and foreign liabilities went up by LTL 121.6 million.
Domestic credit increased by LTL 184.4 million, of which net claims on the central government and mandatory social and health insurance funds declined by LTL 81.7 million. Claims on local government institutions, the private sector and non-banking financial institutions increased by LTL 31.2 million, LTL 129.3 million and LTL 104.7 million, respectively. The growth of claims on the private sector was determined by the increase of loans to businesses and natural persons by LTL 94.7 million and LTL 39.5 million, respectively.
