At the end of December 2002 broad money M2 made up LTL 14.8 billion.In the course of one month it increased by LTL 376.9 million, i.e. 2.6 per cent.
Currency in circulation expanded by LTL 207.3 million in December.Demand deposits in litas grew by LTL 191.4 million, of which deposits of non-financial private companies and natural persons went up by LTL 142.6 million and LTL 203.1 million, respectively, and such deposits of local government institutions decreased by LTL 153.2 million.
Litas time and savings deposits increased by LTL 194.5 million, of which deposits of non-financial private companies and natural persons went up by LTL 106.1 million and LTL 66.2 million, respectively.Deposits in foreign currencies declined by LTL 216.2 million, of which deposits of private non-financial companies and natural persons went down by LTL 47.7 million and LTL 133.7 million, respectively.
Net foreign assets decreased in December by LTL 204.1 million, of which foreign assets and foreign liabilities went up by LTL 85.0 million and LTL 289.1 million, respectively.
Domestic credit increased by LTL 658.5 million, of which net claims on the central government and mandatory social and health insurance funds went up by LTL 177.8 million.Claims on the private sector increased by LTL 438.2 million, of which loans to businesses and natural persons went up by LTL 370.7 million and LTL 65.7 million, respectively.
In the course of 2002 broad money M2 increased by LTL 2.1 billion, i.e. 16.9 per cent,of which currency in circulation went up by LTL 836.5 million, demand deposits in litas by LTL 748.4 million, time and savings deposits by LTL 1.1 billion, and foreign currency deposits shrank by LTL 567.7 million.Net foreign assets increased over the year by LTL 585.8 million.Domestic credit increased by LTL 1.7 billion in 2002, of which net claims on the central government and mandatory social and health insurance funds went down by LTL 153.3 million, claims on the private sector increased by LTL 1.7 billion and claims on non-banking financial institutions went up by LTL 189.2 million.
