At the end of April 2005 broad money M2 made up LTL 23.4 billion. In the course of one month it increased by LTL 253.8 million, i.e. 1.1 per cent.
Money M1 grew in one month by LTL 119.2 million (0.9%) to LTL 12.8 billion at the end of April. M1 components - currency in circulation and demand deposits in litas - grew by LTL 111.1 million and LTL 8.0 million, respectively. Demand deposits of natural persons and other institutions increased by LTL 19.5 million and LTL 85.9 million, respectively, and demand deposits of non-financial undertakings declined by LTL 97.4 million.
Quasi-money grew by LTL 134.7 million in April to LTL 10.5 billion at the end of the month. Litas time and savings deposits increased by LTL 2.5 million in one month, of which time and savings deposits of natural persons increased by LTL 36.9 million, and such deposits of non-financial undertakings decreased by LTL 22.6 million. Deposits in foreign currencies increased by LTL 132.2 million, of which deposits in foreign currencies of natural persons and non-financial undertakings went up respectively by LTL 84.5 million and LTL 50.1 million.
The main M2 counterparts - net foreign assets and domestic credit - developed in opposite directions. Net foreign assets went down by LTL 217.1 million, and domestic credit grew by LTL 457.7 million. Claims on the central government and compulsory social and health insurance funds declined in April by LTL 49.9 million, while claims on non-financial public companies, non-banking financial institutions and the private sector rose by LTL 14.1 million, LTL 35.6 million and LTL 459.3 million, respectively.
