Having restructured monetary financial institutions (MFIs) balance sheet and monetary statistics which is compiled on the basis of new, more comprehensive statistical reporting, the Bank of Lithuania began releasing Bank of Lithuania balance sheet data the historical values of which include the period from December 1993. The survey below provides an analysis of the development of key Bank of Lithuania balance sheet items.
In March 2003, external assets of the Bank of Lithuania declined by LTL 992.5 million to LTL 11.3 billion at the end of the month. External assets decreased by LTL 960.0 million due to transactions.
Currency in circulation grew by LTL 12.5 million in March to LTL 6.6 billion at the end of the month. Resident deposits at the Bank of Lithuania declined over the month by LTL 994.3 million due to transactions to LTL 4.0 billion at the end of the month, of which central government deposits declined due to transactions by LTL 716.4 million to LTL 1.7 billion at the end of March, while the deposits of other MFIs went down by LTL 279.7 million to LTL 2.3 billion at the end of the month.
Capital and reserves contracted over the month due to transactions by LTL 62.3 million to LTL 871.2 million at the end of March.
External liabilities grew by LTL 19.0 million in March to LTL 123.3 million at the end of the month. Deposits of non-resident MFIs (banks) at the Bank of Lithuania went up by LTL 105.6 million over the month, while non-MFI (non-bank) deposits declined by LTL 86.6 million.
