Bank of Lithuania
2003-03-14

At the end of February 2003 reserve money made up LTL 5.2 billion.Over one month it went up by LTL 151.3 million, of which commercial bank balances on correspondent accounts and currency in circulation increased by LTL 91.0 million and LTL 60.1 million, respectively.Foreign assets and central government deposits went up by LTL 129.1 million and LTL 38.7 million, respectively.

The main reason for the increase of reserve money and foreign assets was net purchase of foreign exchange by the Bank of Lithuania from commercial banks of LTL 289.3 million.Operations with central government institutions pushed down reserve money by LTL 140.5 million, and the decline of Bank of Lithuania repurchase transactions with non-residents was a factor reducing foreign assets by LTL 69.5 million.
