At the end of April 2003 reserve money made up LTL 5.3 billion.Over one month it went up by LTL 33.9 million, of which funds on commercial bank correspondent accounts increased by LTL 56.3 million, while currency outside the central bank and required reserves in foreign currencies decreased by LTL 11.2 million and LTL 12.7 million, respectively.Foreign assets and central government deposits went up by LTL 1,005.8 million and LTL 1,175.8 million, respectively.
The main reason behind the decrease of foreign assets and central government deposits in foreign currencies was the use part of central government funds held at the Bank of Lithuania to redeem the 1999 EUR 250 million Eurobond issue.A factor contributing to the decrease of foreign assets was net sale of foreign exchange of LTL 179.5 million to commercial banks.
