Bank of Lithuania
2003-04-14

At the end of March 2003 reserve money made up LTL 5.3 billion.Over one month it went up by LTL 74.1 million, of which commercial bank balances on correspondent accounts and currency in circulation increased by LTL 20.8 million and LTL 39.7 million, respectively.Foreign assets and central government deposits went up by LTL 948.6 million and LTL 1,164.9 million, respectively.

The main reason behind the increase in foreign assets and central government deposits was the transfer of funds to central government accounts at the Bank of Lithuania from the EUR 400 million ten-year Eurobond placement in international markets.Foreign assets were reduced by the decline of Bank of Lithuania repo transactions with non-residents of LTL 226.3 million, while the sale of the anchor currency to commercial banks pushed the reserves down by LTL 134.0 million.
