Mustapha Douch is an associate professor of economics at the University of Edinburgh Business School. Since completing his PhD, he has worked as an assistant professor of economics at Richmond American University London, a research fellow in economics at Aston University, and an assistant and associate professor at the University of Edinburgh. In these positions, he has carried out extensive research using HMRC transaction data and Office of National Statistics databases to provide evidence on the dynamics affecting UK firms in areas such as uncertainties, trade, productivity issues, exporting and non-tariff barriers. His research also addresses the intersection between Machine Learning models and economic problems. His research has been published in the Journal of Applied Econometrics, the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, World Development, and the British Journal of Management. He has served as a consultant for the UNU-WIDER project, working with the United Nations University in collaboration with South Africa’s National Treasury to investigate the impact of uncertainties on trading firms. He has also the held the position of visiting principal economist at both Lietuvos bankas and Eesti Pank.
Period of visit: September 2021–March 2023
Mustapha published a working paper in the LB series, which also appeared in the British Journal of Management, and a discussion paper with Eglė and Swapnil. Currently, Mustapha is also working with Josh and Povilas on another paper on climate change, which Josh has also submitted to the working paper series.
