Lietuvos bankas is the national coordinator of Global Money Week (GMW). GMW takes place every year in March and is dedicated to children and young people of all ages. It is an annual global campaign initiated by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), helping children and young people acquire the knowledge and skills needed to make informed financial decisions, build financial well-being and strengthen their resilience. Lithuania actively participates in GMW and places a strong focus on partnership, continuously cooperating with public authorities, financial institutions, associations, schools, universities, colleges, vocational schools, training centres, libraries, kindergartens and organisations supporting people with disabilities. |
Every year, a growing number of organisations take part, including approximately 200–270 schools, around 20 financial institutions, associations, public bodies and other partners. In 2026, a record number of educational institutions participated: 745 schools and 13 kindergartens.
Each year, between 100,000 and 450,000 people are reached through social media and online activities, such as webinars, podcasts and lectures. Since 2023, Lithuania has hosted around 240–300 different GMW events each year, focusing on finance, saving and money management. These include discussions, quizzes, competitions, exhibitions, creative workshops, excursions, educational sessions, open days and movie nights on financial topics.
The Centre for Financial Literacy also develops a programme for each GMW campaign. Lietuvos bankas’ activities are held both online and in person, helping to ensure that financial education activities are accessible to people throughout Lithuania. GMW receives fairly wide coverage in Lithuanian news portals and on television.
Recent GMW activities have also focused on the reliability of financial information, the influence of financial influencers, impulsive spending and protection against fraud. These activities aim to help young people make independent financial decisions.
