In terms of the country’s economic and financial system, payments act as a sort of ‘circulatory system’, allowing smooth settlements between residents, enterprises and the public sector. Over the year, payment systems execute hundreds of millions of transactions, the overall value of which is several times higher than Lithuania’s GDP. We ensure stable and efficient operation of payment and securities settlement systems by providing settlement services to banks and other payment service providers, as well as overseeing payment and securities settlement systems. We also promote competitiveness and progress as well as soundness and accessibility of the retail payments market servicing residents and enterprises. The CENTROlink payment system operated by the Bank of Lithuania provides a possibility to make instant euro payments within the SEPA. |
