According to the data of the Bank of Lithuania, the domestic banking system is operating in a stable manner, the movement of deposits of bank customers is very small and corresponds to the average of many years. This was noted on Friday at the press conference by Vaidievutis Geralavičius, Member of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania.

“People of Lithuania proved to be more financially literate than some thought: there is absolutely no panic, customer deposits in some banks increased slightly, in some others it declined, it is a normal movement”, said Vaidievutis Geralavičius.

He mentioned that on Thursday the deposits at operating banks of the country declined by 0.2 per cent (around LTL 100 million). “If my deposit was 100 litas, then it declined by 20 centas”, Geralavičius described the current situation. He reminded that earlier, under usual conditions, sometimes there were much wider fluctuations of the volume of deposits.

Vaidievutis Geralavičius told that on Sunday, 20 November, a meeting of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania should be held, where it is expected that the temporary administrator of AB bankas SNORAS will present the information about the situation of the bank. This information will determine the decisions that will be made regarding the further activity of AB bankas SNORAS and the possibilities of its customers to control their money.
