President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė, taking into consideration the nomination by the Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania, Vitas Vasiliauskas, appointed Tomas Garbaravičius as member of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania. He will take up his office from 2 January 2014.

Since 2004 till now T. Garbaravičius worked at the European Central Bank (ECB); recently he was Principal Financial Stability Expert at the Financial Stability Directorate General of the ECB. At the beginning of his career he worked for eight years at the Bank of Lithuania's Economics Department.

37-year-old T. Garbaravičius received a doctorate in Economics at Vilnius University. He is the author of numerous scientific publications. His main fields of scientific interest are financial stability, the operation of banks, hedge funds and financial markets. T. Garbaravičius has earned the internationally-recognised financial analyst credential of CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst).

According the the Law on the Bank of Lithuania, Deputy Chairpersons and Members of the Board are appointed for a term of six years by President of the Republic of Lithuania upon the nomination by Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania.
