The President of the European Central Bank, Mario Draghi, will visit Lithuania for the first time
On 25 September the President of the European Central Bank (ECB), Mario Draghi, will visit the Bank of Lithuania. This will be the first visit to Lithuania by the head of the ECB. During the visit M. Draghi will participate in the conference dedicated to the euro adoption.
The high-level Euro Conference Lithuania “Single Market, Single Currency, Common Future”, is organised by the Bank of Lithuania in partnership with the European Central Bank, European Commission and the Republic of Lithuania Ministry of Finance. While visiting in Lithuania, M. Draghi will meet with Vitas Vasiliauskas, Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania, and present him with the symbolic euro star, which is traditionally presented to the central bank of the country that will be joining the euro area.
After the decision of the EU Council on 23 July, Lithuania has begun the most intense phase of its campaign of informing on the practical aspects of the euro adoption. On 1 January 2015 Lithuania will become the nineteenth member of the euro area.
