The exhibition “Money in Painting” opened in Vilnius offers insights into the litas and the euro
The sounds of a musical composition written by the composer Antanas Jasenka welcomed the visitors on 8 December to the exhibition “Money in Painting” set up by the Bank of Lithuania in the art gallery ARTima in the centre of Vilnius.
“The artists have done a good job. The exhibition presents a large number of paintings reflecting a creative interpretation of the subject of the litas. We will move to the euro single currency of the European Union in not-so-distant future, therefore most of these works representing the litas may be of importance to the history of Lithuania”, said Reinoldijus Šarkinas, Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania, at the opening of the exhibition.
The exhibition presents over twenty works by fifteen Lithuanian artists created in various techniques.
The Bank of Lithuania also prepared and published the exhibition catalogue (edited by Vidmantas Laurinavičius, introduction written by the art critic Diana Raudonienė).
The audience at the opening of the exhibition included authors of the paintings, a number of other artists, representatives of the Bank of Lithuania and journalists.
