Special lenticular cards and information on how to recognise authentic euros being sent to houses of more than a million residents
Sending of euro information packages, prepared by the European Central Bank (ECB) and the Bank of Lithuania, to more than 1.3 million of households has begun. They contain practical information on cash euro and two special lenticular cards, produced specifically for the adoption of the euro.
“While, according to survey information, the absolute majority of the population are aware of the litas and euro exchange rate, the convenient cards, easily fitting in a wallet, will help convert the most popular amounts from litas to euro in a moment — simply by tilting the card. The information in the same package on the key security features of the euro banknotes and coins, presented in a simple and visual way, will help people differentiate an authentic euro from a counterfeit,” says Giedrius Simonavičius, Director of the Communications Department of the Bank of Lithuania.
AB Lietuvos paštas will deliver 1.34 million such information packages in Lithuanian to the houses of residents by 22 December. 90,000 packages in Polish and 75,000 packages in Russian have been prepared additionally. All of them are being distributed via municipalities and post offices. All of the publications prepared by the ECB and the Bank of Lithuania are free of charge.

In the near future, the population will be informed about cash euro and the conversion process through other channels as well. The Bank of Lithuania has agreed with major mobile operators on socially responsible cooperation in informing the public on the key aspects of the euro adoption. According to this agreement, the second part of the euro information campaign will be implemented by SMS in December. The first part took place in the summer.
As of the end of October, the Euro Exhibition, arranged by the ECB and the Bank of Lithuania, has been open at the National Museum Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania in Vilnius. This exhibition, to be open until 5 January, is part of the euro information campaign devoted to the adoption of the euro in Lithuania. The exhibition has already been attended by over 20,000 visitors.
Commissioned by the ECB, and in cooperation with the Bank of Lithuania, two information videos about euro banknotes have been created. They are already being shown on video screens at banks, shopping malls and other institutions, as well as on-line. From mid-December they will also be shown on TV.
At that same time the ECB, jointly with the Bank of Lithuania, will launch an information campaign by invoking the press, Internet and outdoor stands.
