Bank of Lithuania
2006-03-23

On 24 March, a revised and more than twice larger Monthly Bulletin of the Bank of Lithuania will be issued. It will present restructured statistical information in order to satisfy the new demand for economic analysis and the demand by the Lithuanian users and international institutions for the statistical information that complies with the international standards of statistics and is comparable with the statistics of the European Union countries.

The Bulletin includes the statistics of the balance of monetary financial institutions and the monetary and interest rate statistics that conform to the requirements of the European Central Bank. The new methodology of classification of financial instruments, their valuation and classification of economic agents has been harmonised with the European System of National and Regional Accounts.

The revised Monthly Bulletin was supplemented with the information, which was previously published in the Quarterly Bulletin, therefore, the publication of the latter will be discontinued.

The structure of the Bulletin was formed, taking into consideration the sequence of calculation of the main monetary indicators, therefore, it is convenient for the analysis of their development. At the end of the publication, methodological and technical notes are presented, which are especially useful for the users and will enable an accurate evaluation of statistical indicators, their correct interpretation and analysis.

The restructured statistics of the balance of monetary financial institutions and the monetary statistics are compiled on the basis of the new expanded statistical reporting. For convenience of the users, the historical statistical data were recalculated according to the new methodology.

Two new types of information are presented alongside the data on balances at the end of the period: transactions over the period and annual growth rates. The data on transactions over the period reflect the real flow, since they do not include such changes as write-offs of loans, price or currency revaluations, etc. Annual growth rates reflect annual percentage changes of balances due to transactions and not any other reasons.

Important changes were introduced in the provided monetary financial institution interest rate statistics. The loan and deposit interest rate statistics were supplemented with the data on the amounts of loan and deposit balances at the end of the period and average weighted interest rates.

The electronic version of the Monthly Bulletin is published on the Bank of Lithuania website under the section “Publications”. The section of the website “Statistics” provides more detailed statistical information, longer-term series, etc.
