On Thursday (June 26), Reinoldijus Sarkinas, Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania, together with other acceding country central bank governors, attended their first meeting of the General Council of the European Central Bank. On the agenda of the meeting was an exchange of views on economic, monetary and financial developments in the euro area, the non-euro area Member States and the acceding countries. In the period before EU accession, the Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania will attend General Council meetings as an observer, and will become a full member following accession.
On this occasion, the Bank of Lithuania has for the first time released the ECB official press release about the meeting of the General Council, which has also been published in the Lithuanian language by the ECB on its website (www.ecb.int, see section Press Releases).
