President of the Bundesbank Shows Interest in Lithuania’s Participation in ERM II
Dr Axel A. Weber, President of the German Bundesbank and member of the ECB’s Governing Council, visited the Bank of Lithuania and met with the Board within the framework of his visit to Lithuania on Wednesday, October 27.
Reinoldijus Sarkinas, Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania, told the guest about Lithuania’s participation in ERM II, a waiting room before the adoption of the euro.
During a press briefing Dr Weber noted that he frequently met with the governors of the Bank of Lithuania and other Baltic central banks and discussed further co-operation in relation to the tasks within ERM II.
This was the first visit of such a high-ranking official of the Bundesbank to Lithuania.Until then, governors of German land central banks had visited the country.
Relations between the Bank of Lithuania and the Bundesbank started in 1991.On average, 30 experts of the Bank of Lithuania annually participate in training events in Germany and a similar number attend seminars organised by the Bundesbank in Lithuania.The training sessions for Bank of Lithuania experts have been held in Frankfurt am Main, Düsseldorf, Munich and Lithuania.
