On 11 February 2005 Mr Raimondas Kuodis, Director of Monetary Policy Department, Bank of Lithuania, gave a presentation on the legal and economic aspects of the euro adoption in Lithuania at a professional training seminar to teachers of economics organised by Junior Achievement Lithuania, leader in youth economic education programmes.
Mr Kuodis highlighted the historical and legal background of the adoption of the euro, focusing on the importance of meeting Maastricht criteria and the Convergence Report on criteria implementation. The speaker also reviewed the current economic situation in Lithuania and presented economic arguments for and against the introduction of the euro in the country.
Later, Mr Kuodis answered the questions of the teachers, which mostly focused on the stability of the single currency, destruction of the legacy currency and inflation.
