“Night of Museums 2012” promises surprises for the visitors of the Money Museum of the Bank of Lithuania
The Money Museum of the Bank of Lithuania will participate in the international event of the European museum community “Night of Museums” and on Saturday, 19th of May, will accept visitors free of charge from 10:00 to 24:00.
“Visitors will be able to see the modern exposition of the Money Museum in five halls, which contains a variety of exhibits revealing the history and development of the Lithuanian and world money and banking. In addition, they will be invited to participate in the quiz organised on the occasion of the Night of Museums and to check their knowledge in this field”, said Mr. Vidmantas Laurinavičius, Head of the Money Museum.
Visitors will be entertained by computer terminals with special programmes, theme, educational and documentary films, virtual expositions, interactive tool “Which metal is the heaviest?” and the scales which convert a person’s weight into metal price, the press for striking souvenir plates, a video wall that presents the key information on 200 countries.
On Saturday, 16 May, from 13:00 to 16:00 the films about money and banking history will be shown in the Exhibition and Education Hall of the Money Museum. After viewing the films, it will be possible to win prizes for correct answers to questions on the topics of the films viewed.
Visitors of the Money Museum will be offered to solve crosswords, interactive tests, surprises will be awaiting the winners.
Until 18:00 parents with children (5-10 years of age) will be able to view the Museum according to the pages of questions and answers.
Tours will be offered to visitor groups at 18:00, 20:00 and 22:00.
The International Council of Museums (ICOM) has been organising the event “European Night of Museums” since 2005 as a commemoration of the International Museum Day on 18 May. During this event visitors are welcomed at the museums at an unusual time – at night. Lithuanian museums also participate in this event: during the “Night of Museums 2012” on 19 May free-of-charge events will be organised for visitors.
