New coin to be presented at the music-filled palace of Mykolas Oginskis in Plungė
On Friday, September 11th, the Bank of Lithuania launches a new 20 euro collector silver coin dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the birth of Mykolas Kleopas Oginskis, and on Saturday, September 12th, this coin will be welcomed and presented to the public at Mykoloas Keopas Oginskis' Palace in Plungė. It is a Tenth International Mykolas Oginskis Festival event.
At the coin's presentation event, Marius Jurgilas, Member of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania; Saulius Vaitiekūnas, Director of the Lithuanian Mint; Rūta Ona Čigriejienė and Rytas Jonas Belevičius, the authors of the new coin; Doc. Dr. Ramunė Šmigelskytė-Stukienė, the author of the accompanying booklet; residents of Plungė and city guests will participate.
The event will be led by Alvidas Bakanauskas, Director of Žemaičiai (Samogitian) Art Museum. A quiz of the Bank of Lithuania will also take place, during which the participants will be able to check their knowledge of collector coins.

Each member state which has adopted the euro has the right to mint collector euro coins, selecting the denomination, metal and other features at its discretion. hese coins must significantly differ from circulation coins in at least two of the following three features: colour, diameter or weight. Such coins are only legal tender in the issuing country, unlike circulation and commemorative euro coins, which are legal tender in the entire euro area.
