In September 2012, the net external assets of monetary financial institutions (MFIs) grew by LTL 909.0 million, to LTL 10.3 billion at the end of the month. Domestic credit increased by LTL 74.7 million over the month as a result of an increase in credit to general government. This indicator rose by LTL 338.8 million over the year following an increase in other MFIs’ loans to non-financial corporations and general government as well as their holdings of debt securities issued by central government. Broad monetary aggregate M3 declined by LTL 35.2 million over the month, and its annual growth rate decelerated from 14.3% to 13.3% towards the end of the month. The decline in M3 was driven mainly by a decline in overnight deposits and debt securities with a maturity of up to 2 years.
