Net external assets of monetary financial institutions (MFIs) declined in May 2012 by LTL 1.9 billion to LTL 7.8 billion at the end of the month. Monetary aggregate M3 climbed during the month by LTL 346.1 million, but its annual growth rate decelerated towards the end of the month to 14.9%. The M3 growth was driven mainly by an increase in short-term deposits. Credit to the general government went down month on month leading to a decline of LTL 584.8 million in domestic credit. On the other hand, domestic credit grew year on year by LTL 1.1 billion driven by the growth in lending to the general government and government securities.
