1. On the order for the mintage of 1 centas, 2 centas, 5 centas of the 1991 issue, and 10 centas, 20 centas, 1 litas and 2 litas circulation coins of the 2008 issue
The Board of the Bank of Lithuania resolved to order the mintage in 2008-2009 of the 1999 issue of 1 centas - up to 160 million pieces, 2 centas - up to 90 million pieces, 5 centas - up to 30 million pieces, and of the 2008 issue of 10 centas - up to 40 million pieces, 20 centas - up to 30 million pieces, 1 litas - up to 14 million pieces, 2 litas - up 16 million pieces of circulation coins.
This decision has been passed on the basis of the demand for centas and litas circulation coins in 2005-2007, as well as forecasts regarding the necessity to supplement coin reserves. Concrete amounts of ordered coins shall be established every year when concluding coin mintage contracts.
According to the estimations of the Bank of Lithuania experts, an increasing centas demand is driven by enlarging volumes of retail trade and services. Small denomination coins are more frequently needed for change in shopping centres, the number of which is growing, and other trading places.
