Marius Jurgilas is proposed as a candidate to the Board of the Bank of Lithuania
Chairman of the Bank of Lithuania, Vitas Vasiliauskas, presented to President Dalia Grybauskaitė a candidate for the Board of the central bank. Marius Jurgilas is the new candidate to the Board of the Bank of Lithuania. This candidacy was approved by the Advisory Council, made up of well-known economists and authorities in the field of economy and finance, which presents recommendations for Board members.
Thirty four year old M. Jurgilas has earned a Bachelor's degree in Finance at Vilnius University, and a Master's degree and Doctorate in Economy at the University of Connecticut (USA).
From 2011 until now M. Jurgilas has worked as an economist at the Norwegian Central Bank, in the Financial Stability Department. Before that, for three years he worked as an economist at the Central Bank of England. Before that he worked at the European Central Bank and at the beginning of his career—at the Lithuanian Savings Bank and SEB Vilniaus bankas.
M. Jurgilas, as visiting professor, has worked at the ISM University of Management ant Economics in Vilnius, and taught at Elon University in North Carolina (USA), performed financial and economic studies at Vilnius University and the University of Connecticut. M. Jurgilas’ main fields of interest—financial stability, macroeconomics, monetary economics.
The Board of the Bank of Lithuania is made up of 5 members. With the end of the cadence of Board Member Audrius Misevičius, presently the Board has 4 members: Chairman Vitas Vasiliauskas, Deputy Chairmen Raimondas Kuodis and Darius Petrauskas, and Member of the Board Vaidievutis Ipolitas Geralavičius.
Under the Law of the Bank of Lithuania, the Deputy Chairmen and Members of the Board are chosen for six years by the President of the Republic of Lithuania upon nomination by the Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania.
