The year 2025 marked the eighth time Lietuvos bankas participated in the Triennial Central Bank Survey of Foreign Exchange and OTC Derivatives Markets launched by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). The main goal of the Triennial Survey is to obtain comprehensive and internationally consistent statistical information on the size and structure of global foreign exchange and over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives markets. The survey is intended for financial institutions pre-selected by national central banks.
More than 1,100 financial institutions in 52 countries contributed to the 2025 Triennial Survey, submitting data on turnover in foreign exchange and OTC derivatives markets in April 2025. The survey conducted in Lithuania involved three market participants comprising nearly 73% of Lithuania’s foreign exchange and OTC derivatives market.
The survey of Lithuanian foreign exchange and OTC derivatives markets conducted in April 2025 showed:
- The turnover of the foreign exchange market amounted to USD 1.56 billion (the average turnover of transactions was USD 0.07 billion per day) and, compared to the survey of April 2022, almost doubled.
- In 2025, the share of spot transactions fell to 36.3%, with outright forwards accounting for the largest share (37%) for the first time.
