Review of the Balance of Payments services exports and imports for Q1 2026
Today, Lietuvos bankas published the data on the international trade in services for the first quarter of 2026, which show that:
- exports of services amounted to €6.4 billion in the first quarter of 2026 (recording a 15.7% percent increase compared to the first quarter of 2025), imports of services – to €4.2 billion (recording a 20.4% increase compared to the corresponding period of 2025), while the surplus on the balance of services stood at €2.2 billion (accounting for 11.2% of GDP, a 7.7% increase over the year);
- the bulk of exports and imports of services (49.0% and 44.8% respectively) consisted of transportation services. During the period under review, the largest surplus (€1.4 billion) was recorded on the balance of road transport services, while the largest deficit (€128.5 million) on the balance of sea freight transport services;
- as compared to the first quarter of 2025, exports of services to the EU Member States went up by 17.7% in the first quarter of 2026 and accounted for 74.4% of the total exports of services, i.e. this share contracted by 1.3 p. p. within the whole structure of exports of services. Imports of services from the EU Member States rose by 19.5% over the year and stood at 73.5%, i.e. this share contracted by 0.6 p.p. within the whole structure of imports of services;
- Germany remains Lithuania’s major partner in exports of services. The volume of exports to this country expanded by 16.2% over the year. Transport (61.2%) and other business (14.0%) services comprised the largest share of total exports of services to Germany;
- the major partner in imports of services was Poland. Imports from this country grew by 9.8% over the year. Transport and travel services (69.2% and 12.9% respectively) comprised the largest share of imports of services from Poland.
