At the end of September 2004 official international reserves made up LTL 9,471.2 million (EUR 2,743.0 million, USD 3,379.1 million). In the course of one month they decreased by LTL 523.0 million, i.e. 5.2 per cent.
The main reason behind the decrease was an LTL 268.2 million decline in Bank of Lithuania repurchase transactions with non-residents and a net purchase of foreign exchange by non-residents from the Bank of Lithuania of LTL 200.3 million and. Reserves were also pushed down by Bank of Lithuania foreign exchange operations with commercial banks (LTL 40.0 million) and the central government institutions (LTL 12.6 million).

2. Since December 2001 gold has been valued once per month on the last working day at the value of London gold price fixing. Previously, gold was valued once per year on the last working day at the lowest value of London gold price fixings during the year, if that value was lower than book value.
