At the end of March 2006, international reserves made up LTL 11,420.2 million (EUR 3,307.5 million, USD 3,987.4 million). In the course of one month they declined by LTL 994.8 million, i.e. 8.0 per cent.

The decline of international reserves resulted from the decrease of central government deposits and the deposits of other monetary financial institutions with the Bank of Lithuania of LTL 716.5 million and LTL 279.7 million, respectively, and the net decrease of other liabilities of the Bank of Lithuania of LTL 30.1 million.

The reserves were increased by higher foreign liabilities of the Bank of Lithuania (LTL 19 million) and the increase of currency outside the Bank of Lithuania (LTL 12.5 million).
