Bank of Lithuania
2004-09-07

At the end of August 2004, international reserves made up LTL 9,994.2 million (EUR 2,894.5 million, USD 3,478.5 million). In the course of one month they increased by LTL 337.1 million, i.e. 3.5 per cent.

The main reason behind the increase was the growth of Bank of Lithuania repo transactions with non-residents of LTL 316.6 million. Reserves were also pushed up by the appreciation of foreign currencies against the litas (by LTL 13.3 million), the increased value of gold holdings (LTL 10.4 million) due to revaluation and net income of the Bank of Lithuania from foreign exchange investment.

Reserves decreased by LTL 25.8 million due to Bank of Lithuania operations with central government institutions and a LTL 11.4 million decline in commercial bank required reserves in foreign exchange.
